Samba School Imperatriz had its heydays right at the turn of the millennium, winning three times in a row (1999, 2000 and 2001) which is only challenged by the current favorite Beija-Flor.

Imperatriz' success was traditionally due to its technically excellent performances. The School's long-time female Carnival Designer, Rosa Magalhães makes idiosyncratic fairy-tale like artistic creations.

Ave, Bahia sagrada!
Abencoada por Oxala!
O mar, beijando a esperanca,
Descansa nos bracos de Iemanja
Menino amado…
Destino bordado de inspiracao.
Iluminado…
Vestiu palavras de fascinacao
Olha o acaraje! Quem vai querer?
Temperado no axe e dende
Quem tem fe vai a pe… Vai, sim!
Abrir caminhos na Lavagem do Bonfim
(No Rio...) O vento soprou
As letras em liberdade
Joga a rede, pescador!
O povo tem sede de felicidade.
A brisa a embalar
Historias que falam de amor
Memorias sob o lume do luar
O doce perfume da flor
E Bahia! E Bahia!
Dos santos, encantos, magia.
Kao Kabesile! Ora Ie Ie Oxum!
Tem festa no Pelo
Na ladeira, capoeira mata um
Sou Imperatriz! Sou emocao!
Meu coracao quer festejar!
Ao mestre escritor, um canto de amor
Jorge Amado, Sarava!
Imperatriz Leopoldinense's theme for 2012 is the life and cultural legacy that Jorge Amado, this Brazilian world known writer, author of some best sellers like Gabriela, Tieta do Agreste and many others.
His books were translated into 49 languages in 55 countries, were adapted into films, theatrical works and TV programs. They even inspired some samba schools of the Brazilian Carnival, being now Imperatriz's turn.
Amado means beloved in Portuguese, so the title of the samba plays with his name and opens the book of his life.
