The History of Santa Cruz Academics
It was from a dirty block, Vai Quem Quer, in the 1950s, that the future samba school Acadêmicos de Santa Cruz began to take shape, whose initial meetings took place on the bridge on Rua do Império, on the corner of Rua Campeiro-Mór.
The school emerged from a split in a group of revelers who paraded in the Garotos do Itá carnival block and, later, on February 18, 1959, the new school was founded which, in the years 1967 and 1968, began to bring together samba dancers from other samba schools in Santa Cruz, such as Unidos da Jaqueira, Independentes do Morro do Chá, Garotos do Itá and Unidos do Caxias.
The Santa Cruz Academics was founded by the following people:
Its colors are green and white. Its initial symbol was the figure of an ox as a reference to the slaughterhouse that operated in the neighborhood for years, a cap was a reference to the academics who founded the school, along with a tambourine and a bass drum as landmarks of the relationship with Carnival. Later, the school's symbol was replaced by the figure of a crown, and for some years the school had a star on its flag.
