The Story of the Innocents of Belfor Purple

One of the newest groups in Rio's Carnival, GRES Inocentes de Belford Roxo was founded on July 11, 1993. The school that succeeded Unidos da Matriz, has among its founders Luiz de Bastos, Sebastião Quirino, Jairo da Silva, Aristotelina de Oliveira, Abílio Del Rey, Walter Sardinha, among others. 

Parading since 1994, the red, blue and white school from Belford Roxo has won a championship in Access Group C: in 1998, with the theme Candonga, a farewell to the drums. The following year, the school was the runner-up in Access Group B, with the theme Viva a Baixada, long steps of progress towards the Third Millennium. Last Carnival, Inocentes paid tribute to the city of Petrópolis in the Access Group A parade, with the theme Petrópolis, roxo de amor por você. The school came in fifth place. 

In Carnival 2001, the school, which had already written about Carmem Miranda (1994) and Grande Otelo (1995), told the story of the Lagos Region on the Avenue. However, due to financial difficulties, the school was unable to achieve the same feat as in 2000. With the theme: “Lagos Region – the Innocents are partying in the land of Sun and Salt”, the school came in second-to-last place and was relegated after the points were counted.
